GOALS FOR A SIXTH TERM
"I want to continue working hard for the citizens of North Carolina, making sure they have access to fairly-priced insurance products from sound, responsive companies. I pride myself in running a department with knowledgeable, courteous and professional staff, and I expect to improve on our already excellent record of customer service. And, of course, I hope to continue to serve the companies and individuals that I regulate. I have a good relationship with our licensees overall and it's one that I will be happy to build upon in the future."

Here are some more thoughts from your Insurance Commissioner Jim Long about his goals for four more years:
to continue monitoring auto insurance rates in order to keep them as low as possible.
North Carolina drivers currently have the ninth lowest rates in the country, and I have saved drivers $3.6 billion in my first 19 years as commissioner.
to continue to work on safety programs such as Click It or Ticket and Booze It & Lose It - these all help keep rates low and they save lives.
to keep North Carolina's homeowners insurance rates reasonable. I have already saved $800 million in potential premium increases.
to continue to strengthen our fire and rescue services through our training programs and grant programs that assist volunteer departments with buying needed equipment.
to protect North Carolina citizens against insurance fraud being sold by companies that are not licensed to do business here. We currently have more than 50 companies under investigation.
to continue to expand North Carolina SAFE KIDS, of which I serve as state chair. We are now reaching two-thirds of the children under 14 in North Carolina. My hope is to bring SAFE KIDS' goal of preventing unintentional injuries to kids under 14 to all 100 counties of our state.
to work with our volunteers in the Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program, SHIIP, as they continue to assist consumers under the new Medicare prescription drug card program. I created SHIIP, which is considered a model seniors' assistance program for the nation, in 1986.
